Working Out With a Family of Five During Cold and Flu Season

In October I set a goal for myself to Get Stronger.  And with Burn Boot Camp in my corner I was feeling great!  November came in, however, with a smack in the face with colds, coughs, fevers, sleepless nights and doctor visits for everyone in my family.

When you’re a mom and your kids are sick, your goals get pushed to the side.  That’s what we do and that’s why we’re good moms.  And that’s OK.

After being a mom for 9 years now I’ve learned how to give myself some grace.  I love setting goals for myself, I love a challenge, I’m competitive and driven.  But when my babies are sick, I go in for the cuddles and don’t beat myself up for missed goals or opportunities.

I am bummed I didn’t get to Burn Boot Camp more in November.  But Burn is still in my corner and I’m thankful for the flexibility during this sick-season.  Burn has camps all morning and also in the evening so moms with sick kiddos can squeeze in a work out whenever possible.  Everyone at Burn is also so warm and welcoming that even if you are trying a new time slot someone will say hello, give you a high five and cheer you on.

It is also comforting to know we are all in it together.  There’s not a mom that shows up to a Camp who isn’t dealing with sick kiddos during this season. But we can give ourselves and each other some grace and support and keep showing up and keep working hard.

Here’s to getting cuddles from a 9 year old boy anyway you can and getting back to a work out routine soon before cookie season!
